VW Beetle Sets New Land Speed Record of 328.2 Km/h
Whenever someone talks about Volkswagen Beetle an image of small, cute halo car emerges in front of your eyes, which offers smooth and relaxing drive during evening drives. These features make this hatchback as one of the favourite cars of car enthusiasts. Till date nobody had even imagined that this cute looking car could ever gear-up the monster speed also. But surprises are part of life and recently the same surprise came out from the bag of German luxurious car maker Volkswagen which developed the special edition of this coupe christened as Beetle LSR, breaking the record of speed at Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah, USA.
According to reports recently the Beetle succeed in touching the top notch of 328.2 km/h for covering the distance of 1.6 km. However, to achieve this target Beetle was equipped with specially developed wheels and tyres, limited slip differential, lowered body and bunch of safety measures which include racing seats with five point harness, rollover cage, and fire extinguisher.
The LSR trim of VW Beetle was developed specifically for the event and enriched with 2.0 litre direct injection (TSI) engine that churns the power of 543 bhp and torque of 570Nm. This engine configuration was further energized with twin turbochargers, camshafts, connecting rods and pistons.
Other features that were adorned in this special edition included dual brake parachutes which helped n slowing down the speed car after it reached the targeted speed. The new speed record by Beetle has come after the long gap of almost 28 years, as last time Beetle achieved the mark of 281.6 km/h was back in 1988.
