Tata Motors Aims To Extend Its EV Line-Up In Two Years

The homegrown carmaker Tata Motors is the largest producer of passenger electric vehicles in the country, with five EVs being manufactured under its flagship. As a future plan of expansion, the automaker now aims to extend its EV line up to nine EVs in the coming one to two years. This will include three electric SUVs and an electric hatchback.

According to reliable sources, the company will launch the Harrier EV in the Indian car market by March 2025. The company will display its production version during the Bharat Mobility Show 2025. The SUV will be placed to rival the upcoming XEV 9e electric SUV Coupe from another domestic car manufacturing company Mahindra & Mahindra.

The Harrier EV will be developed on Tata’s new Acti. ev platform, which is also used in developing the Curvv EV. This platform supports FWD, RWD, and AWD systems, and the new electric SUVs are expected to feature a dual-motor AWD setup. With a battery pack estimated to be around 80kWh, the Harrier EV is expected to offer a range of around 500 kilometres on a single charge.

After Harrier EV, Tata Motors plans to an electric version of its popular SUV Safari. The electric Safari will be also developed on the Acti. ev platform and is expected to come with a dual-motor AWD setup, and will offer the same driving range as offered by Harrier EV.  Tata Motors is also preparing to enter the lifestyle SUV category with the Sierra EV, set to launch in late 2025. The Sierra EV will be available in two seating configurations: a 5-seater and a luxurious 4-seater lounge variant. The lounge version will feature two electrically adjustable independent seats in the rear. It will also be built on the Acti. ev platform and will be offered in both 2WD and AWD setups, with the AWD version featuring a dual-motor system.

Tata Motors also aims to launch the electronic version of its premium hatchback Altroz in the Indian car market during the next two years. The production version of the Altroz EV was showcased at the Geneva Motor Show, held five years in 2019. The electric Altroz was expected to be the first electric vehicle from Tata Motors in the country. Now the vehicle will make its debut between 2025 and 2026. The Altroz EV will share the same platform as used in developing the Punch EV. It will come with two battery pack options including 25kWh and 35kWh, delivering an ARAI-certified range of 315km and 421km, respectively.

With Tata Motors extending its EV offerings, the company is reinforcing its commitment to the electric vehicle revolution in India, bringing an exciting array of new models to the market in the coming years.
