Tata Modifies The Nexon Line-up

The domestic carmaker Tata Motors has removed six variants from the line-up of its best-selling compact SUV Nexon. With this, the new buyers of Nexon SUV will not be able to buy XZ, XZA, XZ+ (O), XZA+ (O), XZ+ (O) Dark and XZA+ (O) Dark variants. The company has not made any changes in the price range and the existing variants will continue to come in the same price bracket ranging from Rs 7.60 lakh to Rs 14.08 lakh (ex-showroom price).

Under the hood, the Nexon is available with two engine options including a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder turbo petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel engine. The petrol engine generates a power of 120 bhp at 5,500 rpm and a torque of 170 Nm @1750 rpm. The diesel engine churns the power of 110 bhp @ 4,000 rpm and a torque of 260 Nm @1,500 rpm. The transmission duties in both variants are available with an option of a six-speed manual gear transmission system, and a six-speed AMT gearbox.

According to rumours, the home-grown carmaker is going to launch the next generation of Nexon SUV in the market. It is also rumoured that the new Nexon will be developed on a new Agile Light & Flexible Architecture (ALFA) platform. The same platform is also used for developing the premium hatchback Altroz and the mini SUV Punch.

As far as cosmetic changes are concerned, the new Nexon will come with the same engine configurations. However, for better fuel efficiency, the company may also introduce mild-hybrid technology. It is speculated that Nexon 2023 will be developed in compliance with CAFE regulations and the new BS6 emission norms. It may also receive the DCT automatic transmission system as available in the Altroz hatchback.
