Skoda Kylaq Becomes The Safest Compact SUV In The Country
The Czech carmaker Skoda is all set to start the deliveries of its upcoming compact SUV in India on January 27, 2025. According to recent reports, the upcoming compact SUV underwent the Bharat NCAP crash test and succeeded in receiving five-star ratings during the test. With this scoring the Kylaq has emerged as the safest subcompact SUV in the country, outperforming its strong competitor the Mahindra XUV300.
During the test, the Skoda Kylaq achieved remarkable scores, with 30.88 out of 32 points in Adult Occupant Protection and 45 out of 49 points in Child Occupant Protection. It is the first Skoda model to be tested under the Bharat NCAP program. Earlier the India-made Kushaq and Slavia, have also earned five-star ratings in Global NCAP crash tests.
In the frontal offset barrier test for adult occupants, the Kylaq scored 15.035 out of 16 points, with the occupant compartment and footwell rated as stable. Additionally, the side-moving deformable barrier test garnered an impressive 15.840 out of 16 points.
For child occupant safety, the SUV scored a full 16 out of 16 points in the frontal offset barrier test and another 8 points in the side-moving deformable barrier test for 1.5- and 3-year-old children. The Kylaq also secured maximum scores in child seat assessments and 9 out of 13 points in the vehicle-based assessment. The tests were conducted in December 2024, used the Prestige manual variant, with results applicable to all Kylaq variants.
Speaking about the safety features, the Kylaq comes equipped with more than 35 standard safety features, making it the safest SUV in the country, embellishing features like six airbags, ABS, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD). It also carries additional features like a traction control system (TCS), motor slip regulation (MSR), hill hold control, electronic differential locking system, brake disc wiping, and rear parking sensors. The Skoda Kylaq is powered by a 1.0-litre turbo petrol TSI engine, available with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. Prices range from ₹7.89 lakh to ₹14.40 lakh (ex-showroom).
