Renault bets big on the new three cylinder Turbo petrol engine

To improve the driveability and fuel economy of the vehicles, auto makers across the globe are using turbocharging and direct engine technology especially in the petrol powered cars while trimming the tail pipe emissions. Variable Valve technology completes the third angle of this latest technology, as per which the turbocharging, direct injection and variable valve technology are used on the three cylinder petrol mills. The first and the latest example of this technology is the Ford’s 1 litre, three cylinder EcooBoost turbo petrol engine which has an exemplary combination or power, output and fuel efficiency. It is also going to be used in upcoming Ford Ecosport.

Joining the band wagon of the auto makers using this technology in their cars is the French auto major, Renault. Renault has come up with a TCe 90, three cylinder engine with a displacement of 899cc. Despite of the small capacity of the engine, it manages to generate much high power of 90 Bhp at 5,000 rpm and a peak torque of 135 Nm at 1,650 rpm. The high torque output helps improving the driveability and in turn results in high fuel efficiency.
