New Skoda Octavia Sedan revealed officially, India launch soon

It is after a series of spy shots, teasers and lot of cat and mice game that the automotive industry has got hold of the final event - the 2013 Skoda Octavia launch. The car that has a striking resemblance with that of the European version of Skoda Rapid, is said to transform the segment. The new Octavia has entered the third generation and is believed to be the car that will help Skoda attain its global targets. In India, the previous generation Octavia is already present as Skoda Laura and now that the new version is there, soon, the Skoda Laura is expected to undergo an upgrade.

The changes on the new Octavia are quite visible and specially the length. As pre the information, the new Skoda car has an extended wheelbase by 108 mm and thus the overall length reaches to 4659 mm. The new car has also gone fatter as the width has been increased by 45 mm in order to give more stability to the car. With the extension, the interior room has also increased thus giving more head room and leg room as well as elbow room to the rear passengers. Another striking thing about the new car is that despite the extension in length and width and the addition of extra weight due to the extension, the overall weight of the car has been reduced by 102 kg.

Now Octavia has the Green Tec Start/Stop system on all its variants and stepping up the safety, the top model has been fitted with the frontal collision avoiding braking system. Besides, these is a much larger sun roof, new navigation system, driver detection system, pedestrian safety mechanism, adaptive headlamps, new cruise control as well. There are two petrol and two diesel engine options. Right from 120 bhp to the more powerful 177 bhp engine option in petrol to 103 bhp and 147 bhp version in diesel.
