Maruti Suzuki's First EV Vitara Unveiled In India

Maruti Suzuki India has officially entered the electric vehicle market with the launch of its first all-electric SUV, the e-VITARA Born EV. The electric Vitara is claimed to offer a driving range of up to 543 km. With this, the country’s largest carmaker has positioned its debut EV among the longest-range electric models currently available in India. The entrance of the Indo-Japanese in the Indian electric vehicle space has not been sudden, and it has made extensive preparations before entering the segment. To cater for the charging problem during long journeys, Maruti Suzuki has already installed over 2,000 exclusive charging points across its sales and service network, covering more than 1,100 cities.

Along with the unveiling of the e-VITARA Born EV, the automaker also announced that it would establish a large-scale EV infrastructure. Maruti Suzuki plans to set up one lakh EV charging stations across India by 2030, in partnership with 13 charge point operators (CPOs). Addressing the unveiling event, Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director & CEO, Maruti Suzuki India, said,  “Aligned with Suzuki’s global vision, we plan to introduce multiple EVs and enable a network of over 1 lakh charging points across India by 2030, along with our dealer and CPO partners.”  Moving ahead, he also added that the company has already established a robust network of exclusive charging facilities across the country, ensuring easy accessibility for customers.

In the words of Partho Banerjee, Senior Executive Officer, Marketing & Sales, MSIL, “Maruti Suzuki is fully 'EV ready” with a comprehensive platform aimed at resolving concerns around charging infrastructure. Leveraging India’s widest dealer network and partner charging ecosystem, the company aims to ensure EV charging availability at an average distance of 5–10 km in major locations across the top 100 cities.”

To support long-distance EV travel, DC fast chargers have been strategically installed on all major national highways. Apart from this, Maruti Suzuki has deployed a 1.5 lakh-strong trained EV workforce and activated 1,500+ EV-ready workshops across 1,100 cities, strengthening after-sales care and enhancing customer confidence in EV ownership.
