Maruti Suzuki Upgrades Fronx With 6 Airbags As Standard Feature

Maruti Suzuki has announced a major safety upgrade for its popular compact SUV. The Indo-Japanese carmaker has upgraded the Fronx with six airbags as a standard feature. The update is introduced in the Fronx units, which went for production from July 25, 2025 and witnesses a marginal ex-showroom price increase of about 0.5%.  Earlier, the carmaker had introduced the same feature as a standard in XL6, Baleno, and Ertiga.

This upgrade is part of Maruti Suzuki’s ongoing commitment to focusing on passenger safety. In April, the company revealed its plan to equip every model in its lineup with six airbags. Although the Fronx, among others, has already received the update, entry-level models like the S-Presso and Ignis are pending the same. Industry experts believe that soon the company will update the Urban Cruiser Taisor and Rumion MPV with the same safety feature. The compact SUV was launched in 2023, the Fronx and is the second venture into the compact SUV. It is built on the Baleno’s platform and comes equipped with two petrol engine options and both manual and automatic transmissions.

Fronx Sets Export Benchmark
Maruti Suzuki has also revealed that the Fronx has achieved a significant export milestone, becoming the fastest Indian vehicle in its segment to cross 1 lakh (100,000) export units. To achieve this milestone, the compact SUV took 25 months.  Manufactured exclusively at Maruti Suzuki’s Gujarat facility, MSIL started the export of Fronx immediately after its debut in April 2023. Today, the compact SUV is exported to more than 80 countries, with growing demand in Latin America, the Middle East, and Africa. It would be interesting to know that Japan has emerged as a major exporter of Suzuki cars, contributing substantially to the total numbers.

In the fiscal year 2024-25, Maruti Suzuki exported 69,000 units of the Fronx in the international market, making it the most exported passenger car from India during this period. This trend continued till the first quarter of FY 2025-26, during which the company exported more than 96,000 units of Fronx across all models. This was 47% of India’s total passenger vehicle exports—a record share. At present, Maruti Suzuki exports 17 models to nearly 100 countries, including South Africa, Japan, and Saudi Arabia, which are the biggest countries where these cars are sold. The automaker has maintained its status as India’s top passenger vehicle exporter for four consecutive fiscal years, strengthening its global presence.
