Mahindra XEV 9S: First 7-Seater Electric SUV In India Launched
The domestic carmaker Mahindra has officially launched the much-awaited XEV 9S in India at an introductory price of Rs 19.95 lakh (ex-showroom). The launch of XEV 9S marks the beginning of a new era in the segment of electric SUVs in the country. It is positioned as India’s first truly mass-market three-row electric SUV and is built on the brand’s born-electric INGLO platform. Despite sharing its underpinnings with the XEV 9e, the XEV 9S is priced Rs 1.95 lakh lower. The carmaker will invite potential buyers for a test drive from December 5, 2025, while bookings start from January 14, 2026, followed by deliveries from January 23, 2026.

Bold Exterior and Practical Design
The XEV 9S carries forward Mahindra’s Heartcore design language with an upright stance, smooth surfaces and strong proportions. Its closed-off grille, seamless LED DRLs and triangular headlamps exhibit its electric features. A long bonnet, 2,762mm wheelbase and upright rear design enhance cabin space, making it a functional seven-seater. The SUV offers segment-best practicality with a 150-litre frunk and up to 527 litres of boot space. With 205mm of ground clearance and Mahindra’s new butterfly emblem, the XEV 9S continues to carry the ruggedness of an SUV with modern EV appeal.
Premium Features With Contemporary Technical Features
Inside the cabin, the electric SUV receives a wide triple-screen dashboard design, paired with two rear screens and BYOD mounts for maximised entertainment. A panoramic skyroof, laminated acoustic glass and soft-touch materials enhance comfort. Even the base variants offer wireless charging, sliding second-row seats and multiple climate modes. Higher variants include a 16-speaker Harman Kardon system, ventilated seats in the first and second rows, ambient lighting and VisionX AR head-up display.
Battery Options and Performance
Mahindra offers three battery configurations—59kWh, 70kWh and 79kWh—delivering up to 210kW power and 380Nm torque. The SUV accelerates from 0–100kph in 7.0 seconds in its top variants and provides up to 500km of real-world range. DC fast charging enables a 20–80% top-up in just 20 minutes, depending on the charger. Features like Boost Mode, multi-step regeneration, one-pedal driving and four drive modes enhance performance and efficiency.

Intelligent adaptive suspension, brake-by-wire, frequency-dependent damping and multi-link rear suspension ensure a refined ride. The MAIA AI architecture supports over 140 connected features, powering digital keys, NFC, user profiles, remote climate control and more. Snapdragon 8155/8295 processors handle vehicle intelligence on respective variants.
Comfort, Space and Convenience

Ventilated second-row seats, BYOD mounts, cooled console, fast USB-C charging, sunshades and flush door handles improve everyday usability. Climate modes like Keep Mode and Camp Mode add convenience for parked usage.
Comprehensive Safety and ADAS
The XEV 9S features up to seven airbags, a rigid body shell, TPMS, all-wheel disc brakes and drowsiness detection. ADAS availability varies by pack:
Pack Two: Level 2 ADAS
Pack Three & Above: Level 2+ ADAS with five radars, lane centring, emergency steering assist, blind spot detection and cross-traffic alerts.
The Secure360 suite offers live view, remote video recording and extended security.
Rivals and Segment Position
As of now, the XEV 9S has no direct rival in India. While EVs like BYD eMax 7 and Kia Carens Clavis EV offer three-row layouts, their MPV orientation sets them apart. The pricing overlaps slightly with the Tata Harrier EV, but that remains a two-row SUV. With seven seats, a spacious cabin, strong range and aggressive pricing, the Mahindra XEV 9S stands out as a truly segment-defining electric SUV.
