India-Built Honda Elevates Hoists Flag Of Success In Japan NCAP
The India alliance of the Japanese carmaker Honda Motors has added one more jewel in its crown. According to reports, the India-built compact SUV Elevate has secured a prestigious 5-star rating in the Japan New Car Assessment Programme (JNCAP) crash tests. The company exports the compact SUV Elevate from Honda’s Tapukara plant in Rajasthan. In the Japanese car market, the Elevate is sold as the Honda WR-V in Japan and has gained popularity since its debut in the country last year.

The Elevate scored an impressive 176.23 out of 193.8 points, strengthening its safety credentials on a global stage. The SUV earned a full five-star rating in categories such as frontal collision (driver and rear seat), offset front collision, and side impact (driver seat). It also received appreciating scores for pedestrian leg protection. Under Collision Safety test, the Elevate scored 86.01 out of 100 points, which included 57.73 points for occupant protection and 28.28 points for pedestrian protection. The SUV received an A rank in this category, highlighting its robust build and advanced safety mechanisms.
Moving ahead, the Elevate also performed excellently in the Preventive Safety test, securing 82.22 out of 85.8 points. It received Level 5 out of 5 in damage reduction braking tests conducted during daytime, nighttime, bicycle interaction, and intersections. The vehicle also scored 4 out of 5 in high-performance headlights and acceleration suppression systems, the latter ensuring safety when a driver mistakenly presses the accelerator. The SUV also succeeded in impressing the testing authorities with its set of comprehensive safety features, the Elevate earned full marks (8 points) for its automatic emergency accident reporting device. It also demonstrated 100% effectiveness in lane departure prevention during trials conducted at varying speeds—10 kmph, 20 kmph, and 45 kmph.
The Honda Elevate also scored well in terms of neck protection for both driver and passenger seats, seat belt warnings, and pedestrian head protection, each receiving 4 out of 5. This achievement strengthens Honda Car India’s global manufacturing capabilities and safety standards. With the Elevate (WR-V) now standing tall among the safest vehicles in the Japanese market, it is clear that Honda’s India operations continue to play a pivotal role in the automaker’s international success story.
