Hyundai Creta Leads Car Sales In India From Jan-July 2025
For those who own a Hyundai Creata, a compact SUV, this news is going to make them feel proud of their choice. It is reported that the Creta SUV from the Korean carmaker has emerged as the best-selling vehicle in India for the January–July 2025 period. According to Hyundai Motor India, the mid-size SUV recorded sales of 1,17,458 units, beating not only its segment rivals but also dominating hatchbacks and sedans to claim the top spot in overall vehicle sales. This achievement marks an 8% year-on-year growth for the Creta, underscoring its sustained popularity amid an increasingly competitive and rapidly evolving SUV landscape.

Consistent Market Leadership: Despite the tough competition in the mid-size SUV segment from models such as the Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, and Toyota Hyryder, the Hyundai Creta has maintained its leadership. In June 2025 alone, the SUV sold 15,786 units, making it the best-selling vehicle across all categories continuously for the third month.
The quarterly sales of Creta in Q4 FY25 (January–March) recorded the sales of 52,898 units. For the fiscal year 2025, it recorded a total of 1,94,871 units sold, recording an impressive increase of 20% over the previous year, ranking third among all vehicles sold during the period.
Celebrating a Decade of Dominance: The Creta was launched in 2015, and this year it completes 10 years in the Indian market. During the decade, it has achieved over 12 lakh cumulative domestic sales. From selling 92,926 units in 2016 to nearly doubling that with 1,86,919 units in 2024, the SUV has continued to grow consistently during this period.
One of the notable reasons behind the increasing popularity of Cretas is its evolving feature set. The panoramic sunroof, for instance, is now chosen by nearly 70% of buyers. Moving ahead, the share of first-time car buyers opting for the Creta has risen significantly. In 2020, the percentage of first-time buyers was 12% 2020 which rose to 29% in 2024, reflecting its increasing appeal across diverse customer segments.
Factors Driving Continued Success: Hyundai has ensured the Creta remains competitive through regular facelifts and updates, offering multiple powertrain options, including petrol, diesel, and turbo variants to cater to a broad customer base. Additionally, the brand's expansive after-sales network and strong resale value have reinforced customer trust.
With advancements in infotainment, safety features, and design, the Hyundai Creta continues to resonate with Indian consumers, maintaining its status as a market leader in the SUV segment.
