In India, safety in cars was not a criteria until few years ago when the government made seat belts compulsory in some regions. For many years Maruti 800 that was also the highest selling car in India had minimal safety features including only seat belts. It is now that even the standard models of these safest cars in India have extra safety features such as knee air bag, air bags for pedestrians and special crumple zones, ABS, EBD, curtain air bags and a lot of other safety features that make the car practically a safe cocoon for the occupants that can protect them even in the worst of the collisions.
