Ameo would be the name of India bound compact sedan from Volkswagen
In finalising strategy for Delhi Auto Expo 2016, German car maker Volkswagen has confirmed the name of its proposed compact sedan developed for Indian car market and ready for showcase during the show. According to reports received from company sources name of this compact sedan would be “Ameo” derived from Latin word “Amo” referring to “I Love”. With this confirmation news the car maker has also released its first picture revealing the tail lamp, which carries same appearance as exists in its sibling hatchback, Polo.
Industry experts believe that front fascia of Ameo will carry looks similar to Vento while the rear profile will carry minimized boot space. Although nothing has been so far revealed by company about the engine configurations but it is anticipated to carry same petrol and diesel configurations of 1.2 litre MPI and TSI and 1.5 litre engines respectively as offered in Polo hatchback. It might be priced within the price range varying between Rs. 5 lakh and Rs. 8 lakh and will be placed against Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire, Tata Zest, Honda Amaze and Ford Aspire.
Developed on same PQ24 platform that has been used for developing Polo and Vento, the Ameo compact sedan had been in lime light from quite some time, especially since the car maker started deciding its name between Bora and Ameo. The production of this compact sedan has been commenced by company at its production unit located in Chakan. It is speculated that launch of this compact sedan will add a new momentum in its segment prevailing in Indian car market and will also try to get itself out from the emission scandal which badly effected its reputation couple of months back.
