The domestic carmaker Mahindra has made a proper balance between its signature styling cues and modern EV design language for the XEV 9S, giving it a look that feels both premium and purpose-built. The front fascia is outsourced from the elder sibling XEV 9e, featuring a closed-off grille with vertically layered detailing, an illuminated Mahindra “Twin Peaks” emblem, sleek connected LED DRLs, and sharp LED headlamps that elevate its road presence.

 

As the SUV is promoted as an electric version of the XUV700, its side profile looks similar to that of the XUV700 without any second thoughts. The clean, flat surfaces, flush door handles, and aerodynamically crafted alloy wheels lend the SUV an elegant yet futuristic stance. At the rear, Mahindra has retained the familiar XUV700-inspired design with notable changes in the form of sharper and more sophisticated tail lamps, giving the XEV 9S a more EV-centric identity.

 

As soon as you move inside the cabin, you will understand that the interior of XEV 9S is inspired by the interior planned for EVs. The dual-tone dashboard, a seamless triple-screen setup, and a stylish two-spoke steering wheel wrapped in gloss-black accents are quite impressive.

While designing the interior, Mahindra has focused on the integration of premium features by integrating premium leatherette upholstery and soft-touch materials generously applied across the dashboard, armrests, and door pads. Both the first and second row seats feature ventilation — a thoughtful addition for Indian conditions — while the second row also offers sliding and reclining functions with integrated sunshades. An openable panoramic sunroof with ambient lighting enhances the sense of space, and the presence of an electric boss mode adds a touch of limousine-like versatility.

 

 

The XEV 9S is prepared to set a new benchmark for in-cabin technology within the Mahindra lineup. The major attraction inside the cabin is the integration of the impressive triple 12.3-inch screen setup, supporting wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. To enhance the music listening experience of passengers, the audio system is supported by a 16-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, while creature comforts like dual-zone climate control, ventilated seats (front and second row), powered driver seating with memory, and both front and rear wireless chargers ensure modern luxury.

Another impressive feature inside the cabin is the integration of Mahindra’s BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) feature. It allows passengers to mount their personal tablets behind the front seats and integrate them with the main infotainment system. EV-specific functionalities such as Fun&Work, auto park, and the summon feature further position the 9S as a technologically advanced family EV.

 

 

Mahindra has clearly prioritised practicality. With the third row folded, the XEV 9S offers a generous 527-litre boot — ideal for large family trips. Additional everyday storage convenience comes from its 150-litre frunk, shared with the XEV 9e. A powered tailgate ensures easy access, making loading and unloading luggage notably effortless.
