Fiat’s plans to launch Jeep Grand Cherokee in India is followed by the launch of another entry level Jeep named Jeep Patriot. Fiat wasn’t sure for the launch of other models until they saw the response for the Grand Cherokee. No doubt Jeep Patriot is getting much more attention than expected and the competitive pricing leaves no second thought about its success. Jeep Patriot gets its classic styling from the old Jeep models. The vehicle has same seven slit grille and boxy looks but with a modern touch. After the launch the car would be competing with Nissan X-Trail, Chevrolet Captiva and Renault Koleos. Jeep already has an image of being the toughest SUV maker and now all depends on how well is it priced.

Jeep Patriot is developed on a platform similar to that of Dodge Caliber. India will be receiving the diesel engine. Two variants are expected. Two and four wheel drive options are expected while the overall configurations remain the same. With Fiat setting up a state of the art plant in Maharashtra in Ranjangaon district, the prices are sure to come down heavily due to localization. Company also plans to export Jeep Patriot to Australia, UK and South Africa. Engineers have already taken up the development of next generation Patriot so many new Jeep Patriot models are enroute.

Lack of a diesel engine could cause problems for Jeep Patriot. Looking at the response Jeep Grand Cherokee is getting the manufacturer may consider launching it with a diesel engine. Currently it is equipped with a 2.4L, DOHC petrol engine. Variable valve timing is responsible the improved efficiency. Even then buyers would refrain having a petrol motor under their bonnets owing to the everyday increasing petrol price. The engine is mated with a five speed manual gearbox, though an optional CVT gearbox is also available on order. The engine produces a maximum of 172 PS of power.

Patriot is a jeep that offers good performance on the roads and is designed for hardcore off- road use. The new revised fascia and various interior changes along with mechanical upgrades results in more efficient and refined driving. New standard body colored grille, front fog lamps, 17 inch alloy wheels and some revision are done to its rear end. The car uses refined interiors with new centre console and dashboard. The car is loaded with new soft surface door panels, three spoke steering wheel, new centre arm rest, increased standard equipment and classic upholstery. Back lit door switches and cruise control are newly standard along with automatic climate control.   

Jeep Patriot is equipped with multistage airbags on front, side and rear position. Crush zones have been engineered to dissipate the destructive energy such that it does not harm the passengers. The ultra High strength roll formed steel body provides an overall protection.
