With the failure of Fiat Linea T-Jet Petrol, Fiat India identifies the high urge of diesel powered car in the market and seems that they learnt their lesson. Punto Abarth could be very serious performer car for C-segment sedan money as they are locally manufactured. To keep the costing low this new Abarth, will be built at the Ranjangaon car maker’s facility near Pune. We expect that this new hatch will be costing in rage of INR 7-8.

Fiat’s constant strife to make a cleaner and a more efficient car is now giving out results. The new Fiat Punto Abarth is an example of this. It is the latest model to get Fiat’s new multi-air technology. The car is equipped with a 1.4L turbocharged engine which creates enough power to pull the vehicle as well as the car load. This fine tuned engine also has a high seeding in terms of economy and emissions. This hot hatch is the new gift that Indian market expects. The car has many surprises to offer. Like the throttle response control switch, steering weight control and the traction settings. Fiat Punto Abarth is also equipped with the Fiat’s Torque Transfer Control System.
Fiat plans to launch Fiat Punto Abarth here in 2013. The Fiat Punto Abarth price has been reshaped to fit in the local market. The company plans to put out Grande Punto version which will be priced at around Rs 8-9 lakh. The car will be available in three variants. A petrol variant with a 66 bhp engine and two others with 75 bhp diesel engine and 89 bhp diesel motor. Fiat promises that Fiat Punto Abarth will be a better model with stiffened chassis and tougher dampers to make it suitable for Indian conditions. With more power and increased performance the car will have enhanced braking power with improved braking technology. The car will be sold out using ‘Abarth Studios’ section which is currently a joint venture with existing Fiat dealers but Fiat may also have exclusive Abarth dealers later.
The new Abarth is integrated with body kit and larger alloy wheels, high standard chassis, anti roll bar and dampers are designed to deliver the optimum ride. Remodeled front and rear bumper, spoiler, added side skirts along with smooth well finished curvaceous shaped body defines this new Abarth Punto. At the interiors, it is loaded with Jaegar instrument panel, leather covered steering wheels and gear knobs, this car emanate full confidence and style. The cabin is embedded with sporty seats along with Abarth badge with yellow and red stitching around the trim. Each of the sporty seats is completely built in with sculpted lateral supports and head restraint. Other equipment includes electric heated mirrors, electric front windows, cruise control, air-con trip computer, interscope stereo and brembo front brakes, Bluetooth & Bluetooth connectivity. For the reduced fuel consumption the car is integrated with start /stop button.
Fiat Punto Abarth will use the current 1.4 L MultiAir engine. This 1368 cc engine is a powerhouse and churns out 165 bhp at the rate of 5500 rpm. Peak torque ratings are 250 Nm at the rate of 2250 rpm. The MultiAir technology is responsible for the constant engine performance even at low speeds, which proves to be a boon for urban city driving under extreme conditions. The four cylinder is equipped with a Turbocharger GT rated at 1446 garrett with a fixed nozzle turbine. The turbocharger is well coupled with a six speed auto gearbox. Transmission has two modes- sports and normal mode for driving. Performance and acceleration figures are impressive. With the sport mode Fiat Punto Abarth has a top speed of 212 kmph. Flooring the pedal will take you to 100 kmph in 8.0 seconds. Fiat Punto Abarth’s city/highway mileage is listed at 4.9/7.8 kmpl.
As far as safety features are concerned ABS and EBD come as standard and offer base for many other aids like Torque transfer Control and traction control. Rounding off with seven airbags, Fiat Punto Abarth is an effective safety package.
