Which Is Better Hatchback 2019 Maruti Suzuki Wagon R Or Hyundai Santro 2018
Recently the two leading car manufacturers of the Indian car market Maruti Suzuki India Limited and Hyundai Motors India Limited, have launched the refreshed versions of their best selling hatchback Wagon R and Santro, to retain their position. Where the Korean car maker launched the Santro back in October 2018, the Indo-Japanese car maker launched the Wagon recently in January 2019. Interestingly, both the hatchbacks succeeded in continuing the charm of the Indian car enthusiasts.
An interesting feature of both the hatchbacks is their competitive pricing. The price of Wagon R starts from Rs. 4.19 lakh onwards and the price of Santro starts from Rs. 3.89 lakh for the base variants. Both these prices are the ex-showroom price. This has created a slight confusion in the first time buyers of both these cars, as they are not able to decide which particular car will be in true sense best suitable for them. Therefore, going, through, the concern of buyers we are bringing a brief comparison of the features that are offered in both these hatchbacks.
Engine: In its new avatar the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R is developed on the new HEARTECT platform and is offered with two engine options comprising of existing 1.0 litre, 3 cylinder engine and the new 1.2 litre, 4 cylinder engine. The former generates the power of 62 bhp and the torque of 90Nm. The transmission duties are performed with five-speed manual gearbox system. The later engine churns the power of 82 bhp and the torque of 114Nm. It is also mated with the five speed manual gearbox transmission system, followed by an option of five-speed AMT transmission system.
On the other side, the Santro is offered with 1.1 litre, 4 cylinder engine, that develops the power of 69 bhp and the torque of 99Nm. It is also offered with an option of five speed manual and AMT transmission system. The AMT transmission system will, however, be offered in Magna and Sportz trims.
Fuel Efficiency: The Maruti Suzuki Wagon R with 1.2 litre engine is endorsed to deliver an ARAI certified average of 21.50 kmpl, whereas the new 1.0 litre engine will deliver an average of 22.50 kmpl, this is 10% higher than the existing average.
The new Hyundai Santro is reported to deliver an ARAI certified average of 20.3 kmpl.
Exteriors: The new Hyundai Santro is developed on the company’s Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 philosophy which gives an up-front to the front fascia decorated with large grille. Talking about the exteriors of Maruti Suzuki Wagon R, as it is developed on the new HEARTECT platform it receives the new look, but, continues to be offered with its existing tall-boy design, that makes it compatible to the changes.
Interiors: As there has been a huge gap between the first generation of Santro and the recently launched version, the Korean carmaker has endeavored to develop the interior according to existing market conditions. The dual tone interiors play an important role in enhancing the aesthetics of the interiors. Moving ahead the ‘elephant inspired’ central console further enhances the overall appearance of the interiors.
Moving inside the interiors of Wagon R, it is reported to be continued with the existing features followed by the integration of additional features, especially the spacious cabin to offer comfort seating experience to the passengers.
