Tips for Driving an Automatic Car: What Not to Do

Driving an automatic car is a convenient and stress-free experience, especially in stop-and-go city traffic conditions. The automatic cars have dual-pedal technology offering a comfortable driving experience, and eliminating the need to constantly press the clutch and shift gears. However, there are a few key things that drivers should keep in mind to ensure they are driving safely and avoiding unnecessary wear and tear on the transmission system.

Don't Shift to Neutral When in Motion: One common mistake that many drivers do is shifting the to neutral while the car is still in motion. This can put unnecessary stress on the transmission system, which can lead to increased wear and tear over time. Always remember to shift to neutral only when the car has come to a complete stop.

Don't Use Your Left Foot: Automatic cars come with only two pedals, eliminating the need for the left foot. However, some drivers mistakenly use both feet while driving an automatic car, similar to how they would drive a manual model. This can cause confusion and may lead to unintentional acceleration or braking, which can be dangerous. Therefore, always remember to use only your right foot when driving an automatic car.

Use Handbrake and Park Mode: Automatic cars come with a park mode, indicated as "P", for a reason. Always keep the gear shifter in park mode when you have parked the vehicle. Additionally, pull the handbrake to prevent the vehicle from rolling forward or backward in case the handbrake fails. Not using the handbrake can put unnecessary pressure on the transmission mechanism, which can lead to wear and tear over time. In the case of AMT cars, keep the shifter in neutral mode and apply the handbrake, as they do not come with park mode.

By following these simple tips, drivers can ensure that they are driving their automatic cars safely and efficiently. Keeping in mind what not to do while driving an automatic car can help prolong the life of the vehicle and make the driving experience more enjoyable.
