MoRTH To Implement New Tyre Design Norms From October 1, 2022
Recently the honourable Minister of Road Transport & Highways, Government of India, Nitin Gadkari announced that it is mandatory for car manufacturers to provide airbags for all passengers in new cars to decrease the number of deaths in road accidents. Taking a step ahead in this direction the government is going to regulate the new norms for designing tyres. These norms for designing the new tyres will be effective from October 1, 2022, and applicable to the C1, C2, and C3 categories of tyres.

The information regarding the implementation of the new tyre design from October 1, 2022, was shared by Zee Business Correspondent Ambarish Pandey during a chat show with Managing Director Anil Singhvi. According to Pandey the new tyres manufactured after October 1, 2022, will be according to the new design norms and will be available on the vehicles manufactured after April 1, 2023. The new tyre designing norms state that new tyres will be based on AIS-142:2019 Stage 2 and mandatory for C1, C2, and C3 categories of vehicles.
The manufacturers of the tyres will have to keep the factors like the friction on the road, control of the vehicle while driving at a high speed, grip on the wet road, and the noise the vehicle makes while driving. All these factors will help a customer to understand the safety of a tyre at the time of its purchase.
It is also reported, that MoRTH is soon going to introduce the new star rating for the tyres. This will help the customers in buying the best and safe tyres according to their use and budget. It is believed that the implementation of the new tyre design norms will help in eliminating the cut-throat competition between the tyre manufacturers.
