Hyundai's spectacular machine Verna

It’s always been difficult for car companies over the years to launch its mid range products mostly from Rs 6-10 lakhs. Honda City was the first of these models to hit success in this category. However City’s fantastic run has seen some downfall especially after the company decided to reduce upto Rs 66,000 from the original price.

The last model of the Hyundai Verna hit Indian roads about 4 years ago and fell in the same midsize car category but didn’t exactly set the sales record the company hoped for after the initial success of another Hyundai car Accent.

After the failure of the old Verna model the newer version of the Hyundai Verna was released during middle of the last month. The new Fluidic Verna which looked nothing like the old one which released 4 years ago saw fantastic sales and boosted the company’s expectations to such a great extent that almost all the major cars falling in this segment saw a huge decline in their sales.

According to the data the car sold almost 4500 models by the end of may beating the sales of every car falling in this category the only other model that made successful sales after Hyundai Verna was Volkswagen Vento the car of the German giants Volkswagen which sold about 3000 models.

Even after its dream start its difficult to say at this early stage whether the Hyundai Verna will continue the same run especially having seen the failure of many of the models that we were all looking forward to some of them being the Chevrolet Aveo and Maruti SX4 which also promised to deliver a lot to their customers and the market.

Hyundai has also admitted that they did not expect such high sales and the number of models sold shocked them too. The new Hyundai Fluidic Verna has already received 20,000 bookings for the car and has planned to increase their production which had been limited to a lesser amount so far to reduce the waiting period. The companies target expects the sale of 45,000 models in this opening year and they have already sold almost half of it in the starting one and a half month.

The management is now expecting the New Hyundai Fluidic Verna to sell almost twice the amount of what the older version of Hyundai Verna did last year. They are expecting to sell 4,000 models every month equaling the Honda City’s monthly sales. The New Fluidic Verna with its Fluidic design and stylish head lamps and tail lamps with sculpted waistline starts from Rs 6.99 lakhs and goes upto Rs 10.7 Lakhs making the initial models cheaper than that of the Honda City even after Honda City’s Price cut. The Hyundai Verna comes in both 1.4 and 1.6 pair engines both diesel and petrol.

The diesel models now are selling more than the petrol for obvious reasons and the diesel models are selling upto 78 % of the total sales also the new technology has reduced the maintenance cost of the car to a large extent.

Clearly at this present moment there is only one strong competitor of the Hyundai Verna and that is the Volkswagen Vento which also has the diesel option and also lies in the same C segment.
