Hyundai Unveils Retro Heritage Series Grandeur Concept With A Twist

Recently the South Korean carmaker Hyundai revealed its latest concept car, the Heritage Series Grandeur with a twist. The concept has a combination of retro looks combined with electric powertrain.  Celebrating the 35th anniversary of the Grandeur luxury sedan, the Korean automaker has reimagined its classic model from the 1980s with an electric powertrain and futuristic design elements.  It took almost eight months to finally develop the concept, replacing an internal combustion engine with an electric drive system. However, Hyundai has not disclosed technical details regarding battery capacity, range, or motor specifications. The company also notified that it is only a conceptual design and will not be entering production. On the contrary, it will serve as an inspiration for future models.

Classic Design Meets Futuristic Technology
The Heritage Series Grandeur concept carries its roots from its first generation while embracing the theme of ‘retrofuturism’. The sedan’s boxier silhouette and flat bonnet pay tribute whereas the integration of the latest features like an Ioniq-inspired parametric grille and pixel LED headlights give the concept car a modern taste. The side profile receives chrome-clad mirrors and wheels, adding a sleek, futuristic appeal. The rear portion gets features like pixel-style taillights that mirror the striking LED design seen at the front, ensuring a cohesive retro-modern aesthetic.

A High-Tech Yet Nostalgic Interior
Inside, the Heritage Series Grandeur concept, Hyundai has taken a bold step by retaining a proper balance between the future elements and nostalgic elements from the past. Hyundai’s design team has integrated advanced technology, including a digital instrument cluster seamlessly merging with a widescreen infotainment system. A secondary lower display adds a unique touch by incorporating a digital piano function, showcasing Hyundai’s innovation in user interaction.

Despite its modernity, the interior retains classic elements, including a single-spoke steering wheel, a mechanical shifter, and velvet upholstery remaining of the materials used in the 1986 model. These memorable elements establish a direct connection to the original Grandeur while enhancing its luxurious appeal. Moving ahead, other features enhancing the interiors of the futuristic concept include a front armrest that doubles as a hidden storage compartment. Premium leather and wood trims are further combined with bronze ambient lighting, which extends from the dashboard to the B-pillars, creating a warm and sophisticated atmosphere. The roof lighting system, enhanced by ‘infinity mirrors,’ adds an additional retro-futuristic flair.

Although the Heritage Series Grandeur will not be produced, Hyundai considers this concept an important milestone in its design planning. By looking back at its rich history while embracing cutting-edge technology, Hyundai continues to push the boundaries of automotive design, setting the stage for future models that marry heritage with innovation.
