Gurugram Traffic Police To Seize Vehicles With Pending Challans

To deal strictly with vehicle owners ignoring the challans for the violation of traffic rules, Gurugram police have decided to seize their vehicles. According to recent reports, the Gurugram Traffic Police have announced that they will take strict action against vehicle owners who fail to clear their pending traffic challans within the stipulated time. As a part of this announcement, the traffic police will seize the vehicles whose owners fail to pay their challans within the 90 days of time granted to pay the challan. This decision comes after more than 27 lakh challans worth Rs 15.17 issued in 2024, were unpaid by the violators. 
New Traffic Rule to Address Pending Challans.
 
 
On Thursday, the Gurugram Traffic Police issued an official order after a meeting was concluded among senior traffic officials. Briefing about the meeting, Virender Vij, DCP Traffic in Gurugram, told that drivers with pending traffic challans must pay their dues within 90 days to avoid strict action. The last date for clearing all outstanding challans has been set as February 10, 2025. Moving ahead Vij added, "During re-checking of vehicles, if the challan payment is found outstanding beyond 90 days, the vehicle can be detained under Section 167(8) of the Motor Vehicles Act." The Gurugram Police has issued challans worth ₹50 crore in the past 12 months, most of which are to be collected through courts or online payments.
 
How to Pay Traffic Challan in Gurugram
 
Earlier the challans issued by the traffic police of Gurugram were paid in cash or through card at centres determined by the traffic authorities. With the increasing trend of digital payment, the police introduced the facility to pay challans digitally through online platforms like Paytm, UPI, or other digital payment methods in 2023.
 
Steps to Pay Traffic Challan Through UPI
 
1. Open the Paytm Mobile Application.
2. Scroll to Recharge and Pay Bills.
3. Select Challan Payment and choose the respective police department.
4. Enter Challan Number or Vehicle Registration Details.
5. Verify the pending amount and choose the preferred payment method.
6. Complete the transaction via Debit Card, Credit Card, Net Banking, Paytm Wallet, Paytm Postpaid, or UPI.
Some digital payments may also include cashback benefits, further incentivizing timely challan settlements.
 
Increasing Violation of Traffic Rules in Gurugram
 
Traffic violations have increased dynamically in Gurugram, requiring the need to control the happening of such incidents. The most common offences in 2024 include:
Wrong-side driving: Over 1.74 lakh challans were issued, compared to 40,254 in 2023.
Drunk driving: A dynamic increase in cases of driving drunk. In 2023, 5,452 cases were registered for drunk driving, which rose to 25,968 in 2024.
Over-speeding: More than 17,122 challans were issued in 2024, compared to 3,266 in 2023.
Riding without helmets: It is one of the most common violations among two-wheeler riders.
The Gurugram Traffic Police expects that the implementation of these strict rules will encourage violators to pay their fines on time help remove the burden from the traffic police and improve road safety.

The traffic police of Gurugram have warned vehicle owners to clear all pending challans before February 10, 2025, to avoid penalties or the punishment of seizing their vehicles.
