Glorious Heritage of Tata Cars (Part – I)

“God helps those who helps themselves”

This quote strongly suits to domestic car maker Tata Motors, which till few years back was struggling to strengthen its weakening because of massive failure of cars launched by it in Indian car market. The phase of failure in the history of started with launch of the so-called affordable hatchback Nano, almost ten years back in 2007. The failure of Nano was not less than a shock for the car maker and despite of various attempts made by the company to make Nano a successful car in Indian car market it could not succeed in enjoying the expected success.

Anyhow, as failure is the part of journey, car maker continued its journey by launching compact sedan Zest and hatchback Bolt, both of which succeed in enjoying short success and then disappeared from the memories of car enthusiasts due to other strong contenders. But, failure of these vehicles did not have strength to break the determinations of the car maker and it still has some strategy being developed inside it. And, the final outcome came in the form of hatchback Christened as Tiago, that made its debut in market last. The success of Tiago hatchback can be witnessed from the fact that today it is one of the best selling hatchbacks in the country and recently its AMT version was launched in India to allure the buyers of AMT Cars.

The success enjoyed by Tiago is like a fairy tale for the car maker. But the roots of this confidence were laid almost 72 years back in 1945, when it was established in Tata Engineering and Locomotive Company (TELCO) headquartered in the capital city of India, Mumbai. The first initiative from the company made its debut in 1954 in collaboration with German car maker Damiler-Benz. Interestingly this was just the beginning of the car maker in Global market.
