Fiat Chrysler to launch Wrangler, Grand Cherokee SUVs next year
At last Fiat has come into action after a long spell of dillydallying on the expansion plans. As per the most recent reports, the Italian car maker owned Chrysler will launch two of its SUVs – Jeep Wrangler and Jeep Grand Cherokee in the second half next year. These two will be the initial offering and these will be imported as completely built units. In 2014, Fiat could start assembling two more SUVs in India. These two will be compact SUVs and this signal some direct opponents of Renault Duster and Mahindra Quanto or say Ford Ecosport and Maruti XA Alpha by that time.

Another important revelation at the official announcement of the Fiat Chrysler launch plans for India, Mike Manley, the head of Fiat-Chrysler, reportedly said that the brand is also developing a car that will take on the likes of Maruti Alto and Chevrolet Beat. This small car has been termed as ‘value world car’ and will target a segment that has become sizzling hot after the launch of Maruti Alto 800 that has bagged over 50k booking in less than two months time. Reports also infer that the new Fiat Chrysler car will not be a rival to Tata Nano for two reasons – one is that Tata was Fiat’s partner and secondly following the price of the car.

Other launches ahead will be the facelift models of Fiat Linea sedan and the Fiat Punto hatchback. Thus with this line up the Fiat cars will be taking care of hatchback, sedan, compact SUV, premium SUV segment. It is also believed that Fiat could also ponder over an offering that will be a rival to Maruti Ertiga but this is still a far guess. The Grand Cherokee price in India could be around Rs 40 lakh and at this price it will be a close rival of BMW X3, Audi Q7 and other premium SUVs.
