Sky-High Bids Reshape the Trend
According to reports, recent auctions in Haryana and Uttar Pradesh for the issue of fancy numbers by the RTOs have pushed the craze to an extreme height. In Charkhi Dadri, Haryana, the vehicle registration number HR88B8888 received a bid of Rs 1.17 crore, continuing the state’s trend of fierce bidding wars for premium digit combinations. The same incident was reported from Gautam Buddha Nagar in Uttar Pradesh, where the iconic 0001 number was sold for Rs 27.50 lakh, marking the highest-ever bid recorded in the district.
Growing Interest Confirmed by Officials
In the words of Nand Kumber, ARTO (Administration), Gautam Buddha Nagar, confirmed that the desire for fancy numbers continues to grow with each series. Buyers are increasingly willing to pay a huge amount to get their preferred combinations, making fancy number auctions a regular highlight in the region.
Recent Records From Noida: Noida, too, has witnessed a string of high-value bids:
September 2025: UP16 FD-0008 sold for Rs 11 lakh
October 2024: UP16 EP-0001 hit Rs 32 lakh, though the buyer later withdrew
Last month’s auction results:
0001 – Rs 9.76 lakh
0007 – Rs 9.35 lakh
0004 – Rs 9.05 lakh
In an unusual past case, a bidder even offered Rs 50 lakh for the number 6 on a two-wheeler. However, the number could not be allotted as the final payment was not completed.
New UP16 FJ Series Coming Soon: The transport department is now preparing to release the upcoming UP16 FJ series for private cars. Attractive and highly attractive numbers will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, creating yet another opportunity for buyers to secure rare combinations. Interested vehicle owners can register and book their preferred numbers directly through the official Parivahan portal: parivahan.gov.in. The auction registration will open the day after the new series is officially announced.
As the demand for fancy numbers continues to grow, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh remain at the forefront of India’s luxury plate auctions—turning number plates into badges of status, pride, and exclusivity.
