Continuing our series the third blog of our series focuses on some of the major issues, which if ignored can result in severe mechanical damage to your car.
In our second blog, we discussed the maintenance of tires, in the absence of which driving a car can be risky not only for your life but also for the other commuters. Today we will discuss some important tips for retaining the good condition of your car’s engine which is also regarded as its heart.
Checking the engine oil: As referred above engine is the heart of your car, then interestingly oil is the blood which keeps on pumping its pulse. It can be said that the presence of sufficient oil in the engine minimizes the chances of excessive friction, thus decline in the chances of engine damage. To know the rotation of changing the engine oil, you can either read the owner’s manual or can ask from your mechanic. Besides this, you can also check the level and the condition of the oil by using the dipstick. If the engine oil looks viscous or dirty, then it is better to replace it.
Engine tuning: If you notice that your car is not generating the appropriate power or not accelerating the speed accordingly, then it is an indication that you need to tune-up the engine. The major components checked and replaced during engine tuning are cleaning or replacing the air filter, spark plugs, injection system, fuel filter, ignition wires, PCV valves, throttle body, and distribution system. Normally the engine tuning is required after driving between 60,000 and 90,000 miles.

Engine overheating: If the coolant indicator light is on, then it means that the engine of your car is overheating. To protect your car from overheating it is recommended to keep the level of coolant regularly. Do not wait for an indication from the car, as this could damage the performance of its engine before you wake-up.
Air filter: The air filter plays an incredible role in circulating the air across the engine for boosting its performance and power. It also helps in controlling the accumulation of debris and dust in the engine of your car. Replacing the air filter after driving between 15,000 and 20,000 miles improves the power and performance of the engine. If you have drive regularly across the dust prone area, then you should consider replacing the air filter.

Fuel filter: The main objective of the fuel filter is to restrict the entrance of contaminated elements in the engine. Do not ignore to replace the fuel filter after a time determined for its replacement. The need for replacing the fuel filter is different in each car, it is, therefore, better to consult either your mechanic or read the owner’s manual before replacing it.
Replacing the spark plugs: Replacing the spark plugs after 30,000 miles of driving improves the power and performance of car’s engine. The cost of replacing the spark plugs will not affect your budget. For the better performance of spark plugs, it is recommended to replace the wires for the smooth flow of current to spark plugs.
