6 Cars That Dominate the Used Car Segment in India

According to the recently published Indian Blue Book, the market of the used cars recorded the growth of 50% during the FY 2020-21. During the fiscal year 4.2 million units of the used cars were sold in India, as compared to 2.8 million units of new cars sold during the same period. The first reason which seems to be responsible for this dynamic shift to the used cars segment is the practice of social distancing post covid due to which preferred the use of personal vehicles rather than public transport facility.

Moving ahead the availability of various online platforms offering the service of buying the used vehicles made it easier for their prospective buyers to reach the sellers directly by sitting at their home or office. This reason has played an important role in the growth of this segment with lots of luxurious cars like Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz available for the buyers within their budget. However, there are some car models which are as popular in the used cars segment as they are in the fresh car segment.  These models are:

Maruti Suzuki Alto: Known as the family car the Alto is one of the famous hatchbacks in India dominating the segments for almost more than a decade. The compact hatchback comes equipped with all the amenities which a person expects in his car. Moreover, its availability in CNG variant further makes it the first choice for the buyers in urban cities.

Maruti Suzuki Swift:Since its inception back in 2005 the Swift has been one of the best selling premium hatchbacks in India. Interestingly its charm continues even in the used car segment also. The hatchback has undergone the cosmetic updates from time to time and at present its third generation is being sold in the market.

Maruti Suzuki Wagon R: The Indo-Japanese carmaker Maruti Suzuki is mainly known for manufacturing the cars keeping the needs of the Indian families in concern. The hatchback Wagon R is also one of them which dominates its segment. Like Alto, it also comes with an option of company fitted CNG kit.

Hyundai i20: The i20 hatchback by the Korean carmaker Hyundai Motors is also listed among the best top 10 hatchbacks sold in the Indian car market. The integration of powerful engine options, luxurious features, and the availability of sufficient space offers comfortable seating experience to the passengers. The combination of all these features make the hatchback the preferable choice of Indian buyers.

Toyota Innova: The name Toyota Innova MPV doesn’t require any introduction to introduce itself in the Indian car market. It is one of the best vehicles sold by the Japanese car maker Toyota in India. An interesting fact about Innova is that it offers good resale value to its original owner.

Honda City: Honda City in its second generation brought a storm in the Indian car market with its availability in both petrol and diesel variants. What makes Honda City the first choice premium sedan lovers is its updated version launched at regular intervals, which retains its freshness.
